What is 'healing architecture'?
The design of wards can have a significant positive impact on patient recovery.
This is shown in trials at Aalborg University Hospital, where patients are admitted to a "comfort room":
- Felt more confident
- Became more collaborative
- Felt less stress
- Got better faster
(compared to patients in regular patient rooms)
When the room feels homely, with no visible tubes or heart buttons and soothing lighting, patients relax, feel less stress, experience less pain and therefore recover faster.
An extremely interesting perspective - both for the patient and for the hospital's bottom line.
Today, Duelco is involved in the design of patient rooms in 80% of all Danish hospitals and increasingly in hospitals throughout the Nordic region, from Finland to the Faroe Islands. In cooperation with architects, staff and user groups, we are involved in the entire process.
Over the coming months, we will be publishing a series of short articles on healing architecture, including:
- What exactly is the theory?
- Conclusions from Aalborg University Hospital
- Economic benefits
- International demand for Danish solutions
