The dining chair is no longer good enough
Homeworking is here to stay. The right interior design determines whether your mind and body thrive on it.
When the corona lockdown hit Denmark, around 40 percent of the workforce worked fully or partially from home. The same figure was just eight percent the year before.
We are proven to be efficient at home, and studies also confirm an increase in employers' positive view that work can be done from the home office.
Health and safety rules also apply at home
However, a laptop on the dining table is no longer enough - the home workspace calls for good ergonomic design and the right equipment.
In fact, pretty much the same health and safety rules apply no matter where the work is done. So whether you're at home or in the office, you need the right equipment to do the job safely, and it's your employer's responsibility to provide it.
Demand for quality
The new status of the home office is evident at Duelco Office & Installation, which specializes in high-quality ergonomic office furniture:
- People are aware that the dining chair is no longer good enough. They need a desk space that matches what they have in their regular office. This is also in the employer's interest, as the right design will improve well-being and reduce sick leave," says Carsten Hernvig, Product Manager at Duelco.
Raise the screen
In the home office, you need peace and quiet, space for your things and for changing working positions. Otherwise you run the risk of muscle and joint pain. The right equipment can also improve your posture, explains Carsten Hernvig:
- A good mouse, loose keyboard and monitor are some of the most important things when you work from home for long hours at a time. With a raised monitor you get a better position for your neck.
Look bright at work
Not least, it's also important to have proper lighting in your home office:
- It's nice to look out the window, but for the best light, position your desk so that daylight comes in from the side. Otherwise the contrast can be too great and bother your eyes," says Carsten Hernvig.
He also recommends avoiding ceiling lights that dazzle or create glare. The task light should distribute the light evenly on the desk.
